Coopersburg is the first Lehigh County town north of us on Route 309 — about six miles from the shop, closer than some parts of Bucks County. The borough itself is small, a Main Street and the blocks around it, but the Upper Saucon Township neighborhoods that surround it, from Center Valley up toward Lanark and the Saucon Valley, make this one of the busier parts of our Lehigh County work.

It is also one of the more exposed. The Saucon Valley funnels wind, and the open ground between Coopersburg and the Bucks line takes weather straight on. After a storm, Coopersburg is a short run up Route 309 for an inspection — and the inspection is free, the same as everywhere we work.

Coopersburg's borough housing is older — twins and singles from the early 1900s along Main Street and the side streets — while Upper Saucon is dominated by developments from the 1980s through the 2010s, including a lot of larger colonials with big, multi-plane roofs. Those roofs use a lot of shingles and a lot of flashing, and they are exactly where an Owens Corning system with proper ice and water shield in every valley earns its keep.

Newer homes are not immune to problems. Builder-grade siding and windows from twenty years ago are wearing out, gutters on long rooflines overflow if they were undersized, and attics in big open-plan colonials often have less insulation than the square footage suggests. We look at the whole exterior, not just the part that is leaking.
